CAMP LISA'S TOP LOCAL THINGS TO DO IN MIAMI RIGHT NOW: PART 2

Miami (Part 2)

Even if you think you’ve seen it all in Miami, trust me, if you dig a little deeper, there is so much more to see. Miami & the surrounding areas are full of both indoor and outdoor activities, including options that are “COVID safe.”

I LOVED all the feedback I got from the last newsletter and have been gearing up for this one for a while now. Thanks to all of you, I made a few changes based on what you have all been asking for.

Super Local

On 163rd heading east you will find one of Miami’s hidden gems. The beach, bike trails, multi-use trails and the concessions are now open and always fun! Kayak or canoe through mangroves and take time to notice the abundance of life in the nooks and crannies of these amazing trees. You might even see a dolphin or two. Rent or hit the 15 miles of trails with your own bike, And don't forget to bring a blanket to make it a picnic lunch and just stare out into the water, toes in the sand. The most updated information on activities and rental options can be found here.

Pontoon or Yacht, with or without a captain, boating is a great activity. Staring out at the horizon no matter what time of day, is an awesome way to disconnect and relax together. You can have up to 10 people per vessel (9+ captain should you need). When you are lucky enough to live in Miami, you just have to take advantage of seeing it from the water. I especially love seeing the sunset from the boat.

This newly opened museum is a contribution to Miami’s culture scene via the private Rubell family contemporary art collection. I always encourage kids to look a little deeper and here is the perfect activity to do so. Make sure to request a printed family guide.

This summer, check out: Vaughn Spann‘s inverted Big Black Rainbow; Yayoi Kusama’s (my all time favorite artist) Infinity Mirrored Room filled with round mirrored balls of varying sizes giving a sense of endlessness when you look closely; Keith Haring’s iconic playful cartoon-like characters are fun to pose with.

**Keep in mind that this is an art museum not specifically geared towards children. If you want to play it safe, follow the family guide and signage around the museum closely.

Then stop by Zak the Baker to pick up a delicious lunch. With so many options, there’s bound to be something for every taste. They are open for take out only—just make sure to order in advance as orders take some time to process.

Further South

This is not your typical zoo experience. ZWF is “an organization dedicated to educating the public about rare and endangered animal species in captivity and in the wild.” This summer you and your kids can meet lemurs, anteaters, many types of monkeys, birds, and wild cats of all kinds up close. Visits are by appointment only and they’re all about education so the kids will really get a lot out of this activity.

FOR HORSEBACK RIDING

Davie is full of wonderful places to go horseback riding, but this one is our favorite. They give the kids a brief lesson about the horses and on how to ride. They offer 1-1.5 hour on-property trail rides, or at the Robbins Open Space Preserve. They carefully choose a horse for every rider’s level of comfort and experience.

This is a safari tour where you get up close and personal with a ton of amazing animals, except here, the animals are brought directly to your windows! But don't worry, your windows stay closed the whole time. The information about the animals is presented in a way that kids of all ages will understand and be engaged as well!

On your way there, stop by Mini Donut World for a yummy summer treat for the kids to snack on after horseback riding. Check out their delicious menu online! Creating your order is an activity in and of itself.

Now for the Challenge…

I challenge all of you to go to at least 3 of the places I mentioned here or in my last newsletter (attached here). We still have almost a month left of summer, so make the most of the “free time” and choose a weekly (at least) adventure!

Post 3 pictures of you in these places, tag me, and tag 3 of your friends to be entered for a chance to win a Camp Lisa Swag Bag.
