Tips for Traveling Light with Kids and Long Flights:

- Pack an extra outfit from head to toe for everyone including yourself (underwear, socks, and an outfit). I can’t thank my grandmother enough for this sanity-saving tip! I cannot tell you how many times I've had to use it...plane gets delayed, car breaks down, luggage gets lost, baby vomits, spilled drinks...anything can happen-be prepared!

- Every kid (at a reasonable age) is responsible for their own things. Each of my kids have their own travel bag with whatever is essential for them: Electronics, their change of clothes, anon electronic activity (see #3), and maybe even their own snacks (see #4). This helps teach kids responsibility, and helps them learn to organize themselves (a little executive function never hurt anybody).

- Non-electronic entertainment for that time they aren't allowed on the plane, or long car rides when don’t want the plugged in, because sitting still is not a reality- we’re talking coloring books, doodle pro, sticker books, magnatab, madlibs, boogie board, Melissa and Doug water wow- this keeps my daughters (even the older ones) entertained for a long time.

- SNACKS that your kids like. Pack a few things to help them get by when flights don’t provide food or they just don’t like what there is. The same goes for long car rides when you’re not planning on stopping at restaurants. On that note, no need to pack full meals- you're traveling, there's a lot going on- just give them something yummy to keep them happy and moving. Make sure you let them pick so you don’t have to hear any complaints later. You can even designate a special snack that they only get when they travel.

- I'm a fan of reading, so I love taking books on plane or car trips too. My kids take something for themselves-books or Highlights Magazine, which includes great activities to keep them stimulated.

- Make sure all of your electronics are charged and that you've downloaded something entertaining for them (and yourself) to watch...don't forget your headphones and even some extra battery packs!

  • 7- Because I am a bit of a germaphobe, I like the Gate Check Stroller Bag (or the one your stroller brand sells). It folds really small and you can cover the stroller so it doesn't get dirty. Also don’t forget to have a lot of baby wipes (Boogie Wipes, Clorox Wipes & Purell Wipes are great too!). You never know when and what you may need to clean.

- Liquids for babies are always allowed on airplanes, but they may have to test them.

- If you can, buy your infant a seat just so you are both more comfortable.

- Go-Go Babyz is an awesome product (totally unendorsed opinion)- it attaches wheels to any car seat, making it almost like a suitcase so you can wheel your baby around. You can then use the carseat on the airplane if you bought your baby their own seat.

- Don’t forget your customized Camp Lisa Car/ Travel Kit!
