ADVENTURES AT HOME: QUARANTINE, KIDS AND CREATIVITY: PART 3

Quarantine Week 5

Who would have thought we would be settling into week 5 of quarantine? Or that we would be finishing out the school year virtually? After many personal and professional ups and downs, highs and lows, I realize how important it is to stay organized (Check out my previous newsletters for great ways to do it!) . We’ve got to keep busy and organized- it’s the only way to get through this.

1.

SET AN INTENTION OR WORD OF THE DAY

Whether it’s kindness, peace, thankfulness. Pick a theme and use it throughout the day. Share it with your family or keep it to yourself but think of it throughout the day and remind yourself of it before bed.

2.

PLAN A KARAOKE NIGHT

Have each of your kids actually practice and prepare for this. Making it a contest makes it more fun. Maybe you can even plan a duet!

3.

ASK FOR HELP

Whether you need a half hour to yourself, want help setting the table, ask an older child to play with the other, just for a bit. Express exactly what you need. It’s not easy being everything to everyone every single day.

4.

SCHEDULE FACETIME PLAY DATES

This has actually been really helpful for my kids. Social interaction is so important to them. My 7 year old and her friend even did a science project over FaceTime, both doing the project at the same time.

5.

CREATE A SCAVENGER HUNT

The only problem with this is sometimes the set up takes longer than the actual activity- so maybe have one of your older kids set this one up. My 13 year old set one up for us, splitting everyone up into two teams to search all around the house. Attached is the one we did to get you started.

6.

MAKE IT A MOVIE NIGHT OR AFTERNOON

There are so many classics out there and what better time to watch than now! Take a trip down memory lane, and see what movies you remember. There are some great ones. It’s been so fun sharing my favorites with my girls, and now you!

7.

BUY SOME LARGE PUZZLES TO DO AS A FAMILY

It’ll keep everyone quiet for a few minutes or even hours! Everyone really gets that concentration going, and working together on something just feels good! Puzzles are actually sold out in many places- but I’ve been able to track some down- send me a message and I’ll help you out with this one.

Buy one you love and frame it when you’re done. Hang it up when this is all over and remember all the good that came out of being “stuck” at home with your loved ones.
